Up until this point, I have always had good experiences with KCHC. I went into the the office when I first moved into town because I thought I might be having symptoms of add, I saw a doctor there who was incredibly understanding and thorough, I was just starting a new job and wanted to make sure my attention was at it's fullest and he told me, "We have to make sure you can be the best person you are capable of..." He was not a psychiatrist but he worked along side another wonderful professional (Dominique Pritchett) who WAS a behavioral health expert. I was impressed how thorough there testing was in order to give me a proper diagnosis and to start me on the correct medication for the add if it was shown that I had it. I took the tests and it was confirmed that I had add. They properly diagnosed me and they did it in a way that I didn't have to wait 3 appointments before I was able to start the medication that the tests indicated was necessary, For the next 2.5 years I completely became the best person I could be. The medicine was working the way it was supposed to and they taitrated the dose perfectly so that I was functioning at my best without virtually ANY side effects. I finished school during that time and started a wonderful job as a Laboratory Technician. I was so grateful the doctors and providers at KCHC took the time and patience to diagnose me and treat me. Then one month I called in to pick up my paper prescription from the office (like I did every 30 days) and something was different. I had to call and call and call for about a week and a half before they said it was ready to come in and get. They also informed me that my current doctor had moved and would no longer be able to provide services to me but that they would schedule me an appointment with another one of their doctors. I was a little nervous at the time. Especially since this new "doctor" took a week and a half to sign her name on the line of my prescription, but I thought about it more and reassured myself that she couldn't just stop or change the medication that has been working wonders for me and my life and career because KCHC is the facility where they diagnosed me, counseled me, and STARTED me on the medication. It would completely absurd and unethical for a doctor to step in and decide not to prescribe a medication that a whole treatment team (AT THE SAME FACILITY) decided to put me on and was working so well without any side effects. I wasn't scheduled to see my doctor for another 2 months but when I got the prescription it looked like it was wrapped in "red tape." It said things all over it like, "Only to be filled at the Walgreens on 80th st and 39th Ave." Which was quite an inconvenience because it was on the complete opposite side of town and I had already been waiting a week and a half passed my refill date, It also said that I would need to "come in and see the new doctor before they would be willing to write another prescription." The connotation was irritating. Either way I made the appointment and didn't complain. Sometimes new doctors want to ask you to make sure the medicine is still working or if you need a dose increase or adjustment which was understandable to consider. I went into that appointment today. It was THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER I HAD with a health care professional. I wouldn't even call her a professional, She was a nurse practitioner named Patricia. I never even got her last name which is all the more baffling. Right when I got there I knew she was just looking for a reason to stop prescribing the medicine to me. It is a controlled substance but I have been using it for 2 and a half years from KCHC and not once ever asked for more or said I lost them, or tried to deceive them. The bottom line is she screwed me over. It turns out she was a nurse practitioner and was afraid to prescribe controlled substances because she didn't trust herself with such complex medications. The only problem is that her job IS to prescribe medicine so if she doesn't trust herself she should be in a different carreer.
